Kota Kinabalu: A man was charged with causing grievous hurt to another man.Jonny Pudun was brought before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to face the charge against him. However, no plea was taken from Jonny after the charge was read to him pending the medical report. He is accused of assaulting one Jonnypius Subin, and causing the latter to go blind in his right eye at 2am on Jan 13 this year, at the kitchen of a house in Kg Binunuk, Beaufort.
The offence, under Section 326 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 20 years and liable to a fine, or whipping, on conviction. The court set April 26 for case management and July 15-16 for the hearing. The court released Jonny on a bail of RM10,000 with RM5,000 deposited in two local sureties. Jonny was also warned not to tamper with the prosecution witnesses and his passport, if any, to be impounded by the court. The prosecution informed the court that about seven witnesses would be called during the hearing.
In another case, a Filipino was sentenced to four months’ jail for entering the State illegally. Long-long Parito was found entering the State without any document on Feb 15 this year in the city. After completing his jail sentence, the court ordered Long to be referred to the Immigration Department for his biometrics data to be recorded before deportation.
