PUCHONG, April 5 — The people in Selangor residing in high-risk and densely populated areas have been urged to take part in the free Covid-19 community screenings offered by the state government.

State executive for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the number of participants in the programme has recently seen a slight decrease, which brings up the concern that the public has become complacent.

“Even though the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme has started, but we are far from reaching herd immunity.

“The infection is still within the community even though we are seeing a decreased in the number of daily Covid-19 cases,” said Dr Siti Mariah during the launch of the Covid-19 Immunisation Expansion Programme at Dataran Puchong Permai, here yesterday.

The Selangor government has provided a total RM6 million allocation for the free community screening initiative to curb the Covid-19 infection in the state.

The programme aims to see 50,000 people in Selangor be screened, focusing on densely populated areas and those under the low-income group.

The areas where the screenings are held are determined using artificial intelligence (AI), to forecast the spread of the coronavirus.
