Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan could not hide his displeasure after seeing Germany lose at home to North Macedonia in a World Cup Qualifier.

The shocking loss, which happened on Wednesday, is the first defeat Germany have tasted in World Cup Qualifying since 2001.

North Macedonia took the lead in the game, before Gundogan equalised from the penalty spot.

His goal was not enough, as Eljif Elmas won the game for the visitors in the 85th minute.

"We cannot allow that to happen," Gundogan said, per the German national team's official website.

"North Macedonia were more or less in our box twice and we made it easy for them. We tried to work chances, but we only managed to score once.

"The way we conceded both goals was poor."
