Kota Kinabalu: Two men were charged with robbing a 61-year-old woman of RM2,200 cash and jewellery.
Joseph Gude, 26, pleaded guilty to the charge against him but Muhammad Sobrie Muali, 32, claimed trial.
They made their respective pleas before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, after the charge was read to them on Tuesday.
However, the court deferred the facts of the case and Joseph’s sentencing to June 8 and also for pre-trial case management for Muhammad.
The duo is accused of robbing one Laina Houpin of her cash, a gold necklace and a pair of gold earring at 7.30pm on Apr 9 this year by the roadside in front of a dental clinic in Tanjung Aru.
The offence under Section 395 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.
Earlier during the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Rustam Sanip applied for a new date for Joseph’s sentencing by informing the court that the Investigation Paper was not with him.
Joseph and Muhammad who were not represented, were ordered remanded further pending the date.
