Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is on standby to ensure electricity supply in Beaufort and Tenom is under control, as many areas in both districts are still inundated since Thursday.
SESB’s technical teams will be on standby mode and work round-the-clock to ensure any complaints from the consumers can be addressed immediately.
Its Senior General Manager (Asset Management) Ir. Norhizami Abu Hasan, however, said any supply recovery works would be carried out in stages when it is safe to do so.
“It is common knowledge that doing work related to electricity during bad weather conditions is very dangerous.
“Therefore, SESB hopes that consumers understand this situation and will be patient because the teams on standby will implement supply recovery in areas affected by floods immediately when the condition is safe,” he said in a statement, Saturday.
A total of 66 power substations in the Beaufort district and 18 in the Tenom district were shut down for safety reasons.
As of 3pm on Saturday, 18 villages in the Tenom district were still affected by power supply problem. They are Kg Manas, Kg Marais Baru, Kg Kuala Tomani, Kg Kalibatang Baru, Kg Pantongan, Kg Batu 14, Kg Muntai, Kg Ulikon, Kg Manas, Kg Binsilon, Kg Bunut, Kg Ponontomon, Kg Saga Laut, Kg Tumantalik, Kg Entabuan, Kg Gumisi, Kg Mandalom lama and Kg.Batu-Batu.
In the Beaufort district, the affected areas include Beaufort town, old shops, police station, Tabung Haji, Lo Chung Park, PKT 1 and 2 low-cost housing, Kg Melati, Kg Cina, Taman Foh Sang, Taman Inti Subur, Beaufort Jaya, Beaufort Selatan, Balibata, SESB office, Binunuk, Beaufort Square (Kimis) and its surroundings, Kg Lawa, Kg Kabajang, Shahbandar, Kg Taguna, Kg Bintuka Laut, Kg Kansa, Kg Kukup, Kg Mintulud, Kg Berumbai, Kg Jabang, Kg Gadong, Kg Parit Lajau, Kg Lubak, Kg Betandok Poring, Kg Lupak, Kg Tuhu Selinsing , Kg Beringin, Kg Betandok, Kg Kepawa, Kg Gerama, Kg Lago, Kg Menanjung, Kg Kelabu Lago, Kg Suasa, Kg Tebok, Kg Kebulu, Kg Mentonier, Kg Batu 58, Kg Batu 60, Railway Department quarters, Water Department quarters, Kg Batu 66, Kg Batu 68, Kg Saliwangan and Kg Saliwangan Laut.
“The power supply closures are to ensure safety due to the floods that have affected about 10,000 consumers in both districts,” said Norhizami.
He advised consumers and the public in general not to touch or move any fallen wires or cables to prevent electrocution.
Consumers are also advised to immediately report any complaint such as broken electrical wires, fallen poles and fallen trees on electrical lines to SESB Careline 15454 or 088-515000 or WhatsApp 019- 852 5427.
