Woman fined RM4,500 for driving carelessly

Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old woman was fined RM4,500 or two months jail by the Traffic Court, here, Wednesday, for careless and inconsiderate driving which resulted in an accident two years ago.

Kong Mei Poh pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence while driving along Penampang bypass near the ITCC Penampang Mall at 6.30am on Nov 2, 2019.

Traffic prosecuting officer Mohd Firdaus Che Mustafa in presenting the facts of the case told the court that an accident occurred due to Kong’s carelessness which caused injuries to a driver of a 4WD and the driver’s daughter as well as damages to the vehicle.

Investigations revealed that the 4WD which was on the right lane heading towards Kota Kinabalu from Kg Hungab was knocked from behind by Kong’s car, which caused the 4WD driver to lost control.

The 4WD vehicle skidded and rammed into a tree on the left side of the road, the prosecution said.

 The offence under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amended 1999) carries a fine of between RM4,000 and RM10,000 and liable to jail of up to 12 months, upon on conviction.

The court also ordered Kong’s driving licence to be endorsed with the conviction.
