Liverpool legend John Aldridge has urged the club's owners to go for Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Aldridge wrote for the Sunday World: "Kane would be the dream signing for Liverpool – but I suspect a familiar story will play out in what will be the biggest transfer deal of the summer.

"If Liverpool's owners want to give the fans a gift by way of an apology for their decision to be part of the European Super League fiasco, signing a player like Kane would be an incredible way of doing it.

"Of course, they need to be in the Champions League next season to have any chance of getting a player of Kane's calibre – and they can sort that out today by beating Crystal Palace in their final Premier League game and sealing a top-four finish.

"Then the discussion will turn to what happens next, and after suggesting time and again on these pages that Liverpool need a proper centre-forward in their line-up, I can only imagine the number of goals Kane would score if he worked under Jurgen Klopp.

"In a Liverpool side that creates and misses so many chances, Kane would be pushing 30 goals a season if he came to Anfield, yet no one believes this transfer is going to happen."
