Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reiterated his commitment to an early retirement whilst paying tribute to Roy Hodgson.

72-year-old Hodgson has decided to leave his post as Crystal Palace manager at the end of the season.

And Klopp, who is under contract with the Reds until 2024, has no plans to match Hodgson's longevity.

"No, no chance (of being a manager at 73), he said. "Hopefully I am healthy and alive then, that would already be a great achievement, but no, I would not coach anymore.

"But you are young enough, if I am still on the bench then you can remind me of that and tell me what rubbish I spoke years ago but it is not in my plans at all.

"Roy Hodgson is one of the greats of our business. My former manager at Mainz, Wolfgang Frank, showed us a lot of videos of Arrigo Sacchi but also Roy Hodgson with Switzerland so I knew him long long before I met him.

"But when I met him it was even better. He is a really, really nice guy. Obviously highly energetic if he can do this stressful job at this slightly-advanced age.

"He did a great job. Staying in the Premier League is a massive achievement for Crystal Palace and he did it again and again. The group followed him completely.

"I couldn't have more respect for what he did and how long he did it and at which level. I am not sure if he will retire but on the day he finally finishes, football will lose a great person of the game."
