Wolves fear red tape will deny them appointing Bruno Lage as new manager.

The Daily Mail says Lage's prospects of becoming Wolves' next manager could be complicated by post-Brexit rules that make it tougher for clubs to appoint foreign bosses.

Under FA regulations brought in after the United Kingdom left the European Union at the end of 2020, Lage may not qualify automatically for a Governing Body Exemption.

The most recently published guidelines state that a manager needs to have worked in a top league for either two consecutive years, or three of the previous five.

Lage, 45, was at Benfica for 18 months, from January 2019-June 2020, and has since been out of work, though it is unclear whether his spells as assistant manager to Carlos Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday (2015-17) or Swansea (2017-18) would be taken into account.

The FA are reviewing the criteria and are thought to be close to publishing an updated version in the coming weeks, which may change the position again.
