Federico Fernandez is in new contract talks with Newcastle United.
The Evening Chronicle says Fernandez was not on the club's released list. Instead, the Argentine featured on the Magpies' retained list albeit with the word 'offer' beside his name.
Club management and Fernandez's camp were still in discussions about a new deal as recently as last week.
The 32-year-old's priority is to extend his stay on Tyneside, where his family are settled.
