Portugal coach Fernando Santos says Manchester United fullback Diogo Dalot deserves his call up.
Dalot has stepped in after Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo was forced out of the squad.
Santos admits being involved in the U21 Euros was a factor in Dalot's selection: "If he didn't have quality, he wouldn't be at the European Championship. He was also called for the level he has shown in the clubs he has played for, but an important factor in the decision was the fact that he was competing just six days ago.
"The other players who could be called up have been out of the competition for a month or a month and a half, so it would be very difficult to get here and get into the competitive rhythm right away."
