Belgium coach Roberto Martinez is delighted with the Euros form and fitness of Real Madrid attacker Eden Hazard.

For the second of his two seasons since joining Los Blancos from Chelsea, Hazard's campaign was plagued by injuries and, even when he was able to get fit, he never looked close to the player that the Spanish giants signed in 2019.

"I must admit that I was worried about him," Martinez told ESPN. "Because he wasn't enjoying himself.

"His body wasn't reacting the way it had for the previous 15 years and that's difficult. When you're an injury-prone player you're used to having to deal with a body that can break at any moment, but that's not Eden.

"He never had injury problems in France. He missed 20 games in eight seasons in the Premier League, which is one of the most physically demanding leagues in the world."

Hazard has now played 90 minutes, doing so for the first time since November 2019, much to Martinez's relief.

"We had to wait a long time," Martinez said. "When I saw him in March I was sad and down.

"From then on, I think he started working with the incentive of being happy again and we've probably been lucky with the timing.

"I saw a happy Eden against Finland and he was enjoying his football for the first time in a long time. When he's happy, we're a much better team."
