Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tried to persuade Zech Medley to stay at the club.
The 20-year-old has bid farewell to Arsenal after agreeing to join Belgian club Oostende.
Medley, who spent last season on loan at Gillingham, joined the Gunners from Chelsea in 2016.
Arteta wasn't keen to let Medley go, according to football.london, but the club have inserted a sell-on clause in the deal and having first option on the player if he leaves Oostende.
