Harvey Elliott admits he's set himself a target of a Liverpool breakthrough this season.

The 18-year-old spent last season on loan with Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, with his campaign culminating in a nomination for the EFL Young Player of the Season.

On his targets for the season, he told the club's official site: “I think to get into the team. Last year's loan spell helped me a lot and I think I need to take the learning from that into this year.

“It's not going to come around and be given to me, I need to work hard for it. I am confident in myself, I feel I can get into the team, whether it's coming off the bench and making an impact.

“Whatever it is, I am confident in myself," he continued. “That's the main goal really; just to be in and around the team and get minutes.

“Like I keep saying, it's down to me – I need to show the people I am ready, I need to show the gaffer I am ready, but I am certain I can do it."

Elliott was a regular in the hustle and bustle of the Championship and thinks that will set him up well for the rigours of top-flight football.

“I think I played 42 games last season and for a youngster, that's a lot of games," he added. “Knowing how to recover, knowing how to look after my body, knowing what to eat, and knowing what to do on days off.

“It's going to be a big season for me this season and I am looking forward to it."
