Inter Milan great Beppe Bergomi has dismissed Marco van Basten's criticism of Matthijs de Ligt.
AC Milan legend Van Basten has declared De Ligt "has gone backwards" since his move to Juventus two years ago.
Bergomi told Tuttosport: "When De Ligt arrived in Italy he often ran after the man and learned a lot with (Maurizio) Sarri and (Andrea) Pirlo.
"By characteristics he will never be a (Leonardo) Bonucci and in the three-man defence he can play on the right, not in the centre as in Holland. De Ligt is good at tackling, he is fast, he has physical strength. You will see what leap he will do this year with (Max) Allegri, who works a lot in training with situations of 'one on one', 'two on two' and outnumbered.
"It should be forgotten that a class 99, but he is already one of the best in the world."
