Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has rejected criticism of France teammate Kylian Mbappe after a poor Euro 2020.

Mbappe struggled throughout the tournament and the PSG striker missed the decisive penalty in their round of 16 shootout defeat to Switzerland.

Pogba said on El Chiringuito: "When you have great players, you hope for great things. Everyone is waiting for him, everyone is waiting to see him score five goals, be the top scorer in the Euro.

"But he created opportunities for himself, he did his job, he gave everything, he gave his soul on the pitch. It is the most important. He's a great player. It is also a lesson for him, he will grow up and he will come back.

"There is no culprit, we are all in the same boat. Football is like that, sometimes magnificent, sometimes cruel. You have to accept it, think about it. We learn and we will come back stronger."
