Mike Phelan says Manchester United's players must be ready to compete from start to finish next season.
The Red Devils are hoping to mount a title challenge after finishing well behind Manchester City in second place last campaign.
And United assistant Phelan says the players must be prepared for a long and gruelling 2021/22 season.
"Well, we survived last season. It was hectic," Phelan reflected on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel.
"But I've always felt if you want to be a Manchester United player and you want to be involved at Manchester United, you've got to look at the season from the beginning to the end, which could be 60-odd games long.
"That means that you're doing something right, you're in the competitions and you're getting through to the end. That's vital. So you set your mindset to that challenge, it's not that I'll play 20 games. No, your first thought should be, I'm playing 60 games.
"If you look at it that way, you get a really determined group of players who already to go August to May and beyond."
