
SHAH ALAM – Some 53,571 industrial workers have tested positive for Covid-19 since last month via mass screening at worksites, the Selangor assembly was told today.
Bernama reported Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as saying that the cases were identified from screenings carried out as preparation to work onsite, close-contact screenings and other screenings at private health facilities.
“Of the total workers infected, 62% are in factories (33,214 individuals), 14.5% from the service sector (7,768), 13.5% in the construction sector (7,232) and 10% from the commercial sector (5,357).
“The total includes 17.1% cases detected in Selangor who are industrial workers.”
Amirudin said this when questioned by Datuk Ahmad Yunus Hairi (PAS-Sijangkang).
Amirudin added that 79 factories were shut down between July 13 and August 23 under Section 18(1)(f) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 after three or more SOP violations were logged.
