Norwich City defender Ben Gibson felt they were competitive in defeat to Liverpool.
The Reds were comfortable 3-0 winners on the day.
But Gibson said: "It was great to have the fans back. We have missed them. It is my first experience of the Norwich fans and they were right behind us. They are our 12th man. We'll need them.
"It is fine margins. We know what they are capable of. We have our principles and were brave to play around the press. But we got punished. But we are playing some of the best players in the world. We will stick to our principles and look to do them better.
"It is a new season and new team. It is always going to be tough for a Norwich against Liverpool. But we have to roll our sleeves up and give it 110%. There is stuff to improve on. We have to do things better."
