Manchester United are rethinking loan plans for Teden Mengi.

The Manchester Evening News says Mengi could remain at the club, rather than heading out on loan, fuelling the possibility Phil Jones could secure a temporary transfer before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Mengi, 19, joined Derby County on loan for the second half of last season but the Championship club have been prohibited from making more signings due to their transfer embargo.

Jones, now fully fit, has been linked with a Championship loan in recent days.

The 29 year-old has not played for United since January 24 2020 and he has started twice in the Premier League in the last two years but is currently the fifth-choice centre-back.
