Aston Villa boss Dean Smith says his players are eager to prove themselves they're not a one man team.

Villa are preparing for their first competitive game on Saturday at Watford since selling Jack Grealish for £100million to Manchester City.

Smith said: “Rather than becoming superstars, they want to become a super team.

“I feel there was an over-reliance at times on Jack. Everyone could see that.

“He was a top quality player and he must have been to go for £100million for the British record transfer fee.

“Our job was then to progress and move forward.

“We were always bringing Emi Buendia into the football club, but with Jack's departure, it enabled us to go and get Leon Bailey and Danny Ings as well.

“Them with Axel and Ashley Young I believe makes us into a better team now.

“Now we have that depth in the squad, I think it puts us in a stronger place.

“We know what a unique player and character Jack was but someone had to get him the ball.

“It did upset a few of the players being labelled a one-man team.

“There is a special player there but we are more than just Jack and it is our job now to go and prove that."
