Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is delighted to count on Ashley Young this season.

Inter Milan title winner Young has returned to Villa , where he had a successful spell from 2007–2011 before joining Manchester United.

Young, 36, also played for today's hosts Watford and could have re-joined them instead.

Smith smiled: “I have re-named him Young Ashley, his personality is infectious.

“For somebody who is 36, he has been in the top five of every metric we have measured in pre-season.

“Whether that be long distance running, sprinting.

“It just shows if you look after your body you can be as fit as anybody.

“He is coming into the club, one he has a history with already, he is carrying a Serie A winners medal as well.

“Along with that personality certainly comes a winning mentality."
