Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has undergone groin surgery.

McTominay could only manage 14 minutes of the 1-1 draw against Southampton, with United revealing the 24-year-old was struggling with the groin throughout.

"Scott has undergone surgery for an ongoing groin injury that was causing significant pain when playing," the club wrote in a statement.

"Having tried all other treatment options in pre-season, surgery was deemed necessary to resolve the issue.

"We hope to have him back soon."
