Holland coach Louis van Gaal has held lengthy talks with Donny van de Beek about his situation at Manchester United.
In a World Cup year, Van Gaal is concerned about Van de Beek's lack of minutes at United and left him out of this week's squad.
Van Gaal said that he informed Van de Beek on Thursday evening of his decision.
Whether he also advised him during the telephone conversation about a departure from Manchester United, Van Gaal said: "I can't say anything about that.
“I spoke with him for about 45 minutes. It is also about other matters than just his role in the Dutch national team. But I can't say anything about that, I think. That's something between Donny and me."
