Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer retains hope of signing a defensive-midfielder before deadline day.

It's understood West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is the top target and the Independent report that the manager sees the transfer as necessary to make his team into title challengers.

However, it's reported, a deal is near impossible this summer as West Ham are in a strong position and won't let him leave for less than £100million.

It's added that United have also looked at Brighton's Yves Bissouma, but he is seen as a more box-to-box midfielder than the dedicated holder that Solskajer wants.
