Granit Xhaka is close to signing a new contract with Arsenal.

The 28-year-old's current deal is up in 2023 and he has been strongly linked with a move to Roma this summer.

But the Serie A side have not come close to Arsenal's valuation for the Swiss midfielder.

As such, Mikel Arteta stated Xhaka would not be leaving this summer when speaking after the friendly loss to Chelsea last week.

Now several outlets in the UK are reporting Xhaka will sign a new contract until 2025 on improved terms.

The Gunners have now turned their attention to Leicester City playmaker James Maddison to bolster their midfielder.

Arteta has already recruited Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White and Nuno Taveres this summer.
