Newcastle United failed to sign Hamza Choudhury from Leicester City on loan due to loan fee demands.

The club were in talks with Leicester during the final days of the window to secure the defensive midfielder to bolster Steve Bruce's squad.

However, British media sources indicate that owner Mike Ashley did not want to pay a loan fee for Choudhury.

Another issue was Newcastle's unwillingness to pay a greater portion of the player's wages during the loan spell.

Such talks resulted in Leicester pulling out, as they felt holding onto Choudhury for squad depth was a better option.
