Liverpool defender Nat Phillips says Rhys Williams will benefit from his loan with Swansea City.

Phillips spent the 2019-20 season with Stuttgart in Germany and believes a temporary switch away from Merseyside will massively aid Williams' development.

“I benefited from it massively," said Phillips to the Liverpool Echo. “It's not just the footballing side of it but also the whole being away from home, moving out, trying to slot into a new team, all of those things.

“It develops you as a person, your character, it builds a certain resilience within you and without my loan, I'd have found last year a lot more difficult.

“When I was at Stuttgart there was a huge amount of pressure on us to get promotion. There was no other option, it would have been a failure if we didn't.

“So there were similarities with last year. And what they're trying to achieve I had that experience to relate back to so I think certainly for Rhys, it'll be massively beneficial to him as well just to get games under his belt."
