The Dutch defender hit a long ball into the path of Maupay, who lobbed Guaita from the edge of the box.
A win would have saw Graham Potter's Seagulls move into top place on the Premier League.
Instead they sit in sixth place after six games with 13 points.
Patrick Vieira will be immensely frustrated not to have won the match as Palace blew several chances to increase their lead.
