Michael Schumacher is 'different but here' says wife Corinna

THE world of Formula One racing went into shock in December 2013 when Michael Schumacher suffered a severe head injury in a skiing accident after he hit his head on a rock while out with his son Mick.

The F1 legend was in a medically induced coma for some six months and has not been seen in public since as the family has made it a private matter.

However, there could be some light shed on the condition of the racing great as a Netflix documentary is in the pipeline where his wife Corinna has stated he is "different, but he's here".

Corinna's comments about the status of his health are part of the documentary premiering on September 15 titled "Schumacher" which should give his fans a good insight into his present condition.

"Michael is here. Different but here and that gives us strength, I find. He still shows me how strong he is every day," she says.

The wife asserts they still live together as a family, do therapy and everything to make Schumacher better and to ensure his comfort.

Corinna further elaborates that Schumacher always protected them then and now they are reciprocating that.

Schumacher is considered one of the best F1 racers of all time. He won seven championships from 1994-2004 and totaled 91 wins and 68 poles over his 19-year career.

He drove for Jordan, Benetton and Ferrari from 1991-2006 before stepping away from the sport. However, he returned in 2010 with Mercedes and drove for the team for three seasons before officially retiring.

His final season with the team immediately preceded Lewis Hamilton's arrival. The two drivers are tied with seven world titles.

His son Mick is currently in his F1 rookie season driving for backmarker Haas F1. - Agencies, September 11, 2021
