Arsenal great Lauren insists William Saliba should only be focused on succeeding with Marseille.
The French defender was signed by Arsenal from Saint-Etienne for 19m in 2019 and was immediately loaned back to the Ligue 1 club.
Despite returning to north London in the summer of 2020, Saliba failed to convince Mikel Arteta and was loaned to Nice in the second half of last season.
Saliba is now excelling on loan with Marseille, with the club's manager Jorge Sampioli lauding the 20-year-old as a 'future great of French football'.
Talk is already rumbling about Saliba's potential return to Arsenal, but former Invicibles star Lauren thinks he should forget the noise and focus on this season.
"I don't know what Arteta should and should not be doing, but what I know is that Saliba has to do what he's been doing so far," Lauren said to TribalFootball.com, on behalf of Bonus Finder.
"Be your best while at Marseille and then you get your chance to come back to Arsenal or maybe another club.
"The fact he's doing well so far shows that he has a chance once he comes back to the team."
Arteta invested heavily in his defence this past summer, spending £50m on stopper Ben White and £17m on Takehiro Tomiyasu.
And Lauren admits there could be little opportunity for Saliba at the Emirates, with the two-time Premier League impressed with partnership between White and Gabriel.
"In this case, I believe the team is balanced in that area with White, Gabriel and Holding in those positions," Lauren added.
"That position is currently covered, and Ben White is more technical with the ball and he can play under pressure.
"He has a good passing range for a centre back and then Gabriel is more aggressive in his play, so it's a good balance.
"I think that the current balance is positive and we will see them develop together in the following games."
