Everton hero Kevin Campbell believes Manchester United didn't want to strengthen the Blues by sending Donny van de Beek to Merseyside.

Van de Beek has struggled for game time since joining United one year ago, but has been urged to fight for a place within the team.

Campbell believes this would have been a good signing for the Blues but was not shocked a deal didn't happen.

“He's another player in the midfield that Everton could use. Someone with avid quality as well, so you could swap and change in there with different qualities," he told Goodison News.

“Am I surprised by United not letting him go? They aren't in the business of improving Everton, that's the big problem and it is a North West rival.“
