Brentford assistant manager Brian Riemer says their defensive quality will determine whether they stay up this season.
The Bees currently sit in tenth place after a bright start to their Premier League campaign.
Riemer said: "We said from the start that the criterion for success this year is to defend well; if we defend well, we know we have the qualities on the ball."
Brentford have only conceded one goal in the Premier League so far.
He added, "We have shown in the first three matches that we have a solid structure. What we did in the Championship is what we still have."
