Newcastle's new owners are expected to soon show the door to manager Steve Bruce, this despite having no replacement to step in.
Instead, assistant coach Graeme Jones will take charge while the new board finds a long-term manager.
The Mirror says Zidane's name has been raised amongst the heirarchy.
The Frenchman is currently a free agent, having left Real Madrid at the end of last season.i
