Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has paid tribute to James Milner ahead of their clash with Manchester City.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold out injured, Liverpool's right-back position could be filled by James Milner, who Klopp says is "influential" on and off the field.

"James doesn't like the position but he plays there exceptionally well," said Klopp.

"He likes to play in the middle but the way we play, the right back has a lot of possession and is quite influential, so he thinks it's OK to play there at the moment.

"He has done really well there. He is just a very important part of the squad, not only when he plays, but he is incredibly influential in the dressing room too.

"He is a real engine and on the pitch too so I'm happy he produces these kind of performances because it shows his whole spectrum He can play in many positions and do everything so perhaps after his career he will appreciate that."
