Kota Kinabalu: Teachers in Sabah yet to do so are urged to get vaccinated or face possible disciplinary action, said Deputy Education Minister II Datuk Mohamad Alamin.

He said it is in line with the Public Services Department’s (JPA) official announcement on Thursday that vaccination is now mandatory for all civil servants. Those who don’t would be penalised.

“The form of disciplinary action is still to be determined,” he told Daily Express, Thursday.

On Saturday, Mohamad, who is also Kimanis MP, was reported as saying that there are still some 290 Sabahan school teachers yet to complete their Covid-19 vaccination.

Asked why the teachers have not been vaccinated, Mohamad said they simply refused to do so while some face medical conditions. He urged the unvaccinated teachers to give their cooperation.

“This is for the good of the students and to raise parents’ confidence (to send their children to school). I appeal to the teachers, please come forward and get vaccinated,” he said.

On Thursday, JPA announced that almost 98 per cent of civil servants have been vaccinated, while 1.6 per cent are yet to register for the vaccine.

Unvaccinated civil servants are granted a grace period until Nov. 1 to get vaccinated or face disciplinary action in accordance with the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.

Senior Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Radzi Jidin announced in early September that schools would be reopened in stages on Oct. 3 and according to phases under the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

For Sabah, which is under phase two of the NRP, face-to-face teaching and learning in schools would only be for Form Six (semester two) students, International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) students, special needs students and Vocational Colleges.
