Former Everton midfielder Joe Parkinson is impressed by Abdoulaye Doucoure's early season form.
Now working with Everton Football College after helping Hartlepool United win promotion back to the Football League last season as assistant manager to Dave Challinor, Parkinson can see similarities between the way the Blues are trying to play now and what his own team were doing a generation ago.
Parkinson told the Liverpool Echo: “I'm a big fan of Abdoulaye Doucoure. I remember watching him playing for Watford against Everton at Goodison and he scored a goal and I liked him then.
“He's just getting better and better and he's listening to Rafa who is telling him to get forward more.
“He seems to be a bundle of energy and we're using him in the right way and Allan is just sitting in there and dictating at times.
“Hopefully we can keep them fit because they're such a massive part of what we're trying to achieve and the way we want to play.
“The two wingers (Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray) have been fantastic signings and it's just unfortunate that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been injured in recent weeks because he's the type of centre-forward to finish off these crosses.
“We're still scoring goals though which is great and we're exciting to watch again so fingers crossed it just gets better."
