Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is delighted with the impact of new set-piece coach Austin MacPhee.
The Scot arrived in August after Villa's sporting director Johan Lange agreed a deal with his previous club, Danish side FC Midtjylland, where he held the role of assistant manager.
Speaking of MacPhee's impact, Smith said: "JT chose to leave his contract early and he was so important to where we are now. He chose to go and we always had a plan to improve as a coaching staff. Obviously, Richard (O'Kelly) chose to go as well.
"The plan was always there for Austin MacPhee to be brought in. I wanted a set-piece coach and I had been talking about it for a while.
"Johan was very excited about getting a top person like Austin. Austin was working at Midtjylland which is a club I know well given their connections with Brentford as well.
"He was the outstanding candidate and we were really pleased he came in given the detail he's got.
"He's been a coach as well as a set-piece coach and a caretaker manager at Hearts, so his understanding and empathy he has with the other coaches and myself is excellent."
