Football Insider says Newcastle's new owners are weighing up a January bid for the England international.
Ward-Prowse currently has a deal with Saints to 2026.
It's suggested Southampton would be willing to do business at a starting price of £40m.
This season, Ward-Prowse has scored two goals and produced two assists in nine competitive games.
