Liverpool hope to find a contract breakthrough with Mohamed Salah by the end of the year.

The Sunday World says ahead of Sunday's title showdown with Manchester City, it has emerged that Liverpool and Salah's camp are NOT close to finalising a new deal.

Yet even though the club have made it clear they won't break the bank to keep the Egyptian, all parties are keen to work towards an agreement.

After successfully agreeing new contracts with captan Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho ahead of the new season, Salah remains has yet to commit his future to the club.

While reports suggesting Salah and his adviser Ramy Abbas rejected Liverpool's contract offer are wide of the mark, Liverpool have a salary ceiling they will not break in their push to keep their star man.

Van Dijk is believed to be Liverpool's top earner at £220,000-a-week, with Salah expected to demand close to £300,000-a-week to extend his current deal that is due to expire in the summer of 2023.
