Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has slammed Tottenham owner Daniel Levy for how he handled the club's managerial situation after sacking Jose Mourinho.

Following Mourinho's dismissal, Levy placed Spurs' assistant coach Ryan Mason in charge.

He was subsequently replaced by former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo who wasn't Levy's first-choice.

Speaking on Spurs' appointment fiasco, Neville said: “Levy's biggest mistake this summer, I say he's the best football operator, was his handling of the managerial situation from Jose [Mourinho] to Ryan Mason and then basically he was sixth or seventh in line, Nuno.

“I would have expected for that to have been handled better. I know it's difficult when you're in that position where you sack a manager."
