Newcastle United great Alan Shearer has a warning for the owners after defeat to Chelsea.
The result leaves Newcastle in dire trouble with no wins in their opening ten games and they could find themselves rock bottom of the Premier League, if Norwich are able to get a result against Leeds today.
Shearer said: "It's a culmination of poor recruitment for years, barring a couple of players and retention of players who are just not good enough but it was cheaper to keep them than replace them.
"They had five players out there who were in the Championship five years ago so that's why they are where they are.
"But, I understand why they played the game how they did today in terms of the system that the manager played. The system never allowed them to get out at all and it never allowed them to pose a threat on Chelsea at all.
"Every time the goalkeeper got the ball it seemed he was kicking it long because of that.
"That's the system they played, they had a 5-3-2 and everyone back on the defending, but the problem with that is that when you win the ball they kicked it straight back to Chelsea and they turn around and come at you again."
Shearer added: "When you do that you've got no chance. What are the forwards meant to do with that? It was just kicking it up and trying to get up long.
"Longstaff got the ball and tried to look forward for the forward players but there was no one there so he had to go back. Eventually it ended up back with the goalkeeper - and as I said - he kicks that out. What chance have you got?
"The same thing happened again. They went back to the goalkeeper and they had no chance. You had Rudiger against Wilson, Silva and Christensen there and you've just got no chance at all.
"The three centre-halves had a field day. Every time the ball went forward they just won it. There was no chance Saint-Maximin or Wilson were going to win those kind off balls forward.
"Chelsea were just too good on the day and they made it difficult. Whoever they're going to appoint, they need to appoint him sharpish because they've got a massive job on."
