Newcastle United cult hero Mick Quinn believes they'll stay up with Eddie Howe now in charge.
Yesterday's draw with Brentford has Newcastle bottom of the Premier League table.
Quinn remains confident, however, that his former side can stay in the division amid the positivity that Howe has brought both on and off the field since his arrival.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “Definitely [on whether they can stay up]. I've seen all the positives there yesterday, there was intensity going forward scoring three goals. They've just got to keep clean sheets and Eddie hasn't been there long so with his coaching staff he can get on the training ground and improve that defence."
“It was no secret that they put all their eggs in Unai Emery's basket at one point, but Eddie's gone there now. They'll get behind any manager to start with. Eddie's said all the right things about the city, the club itself, the history, the fans.
“He respects and gets that, and I think that's what they like and what they want. They want to see a coach who comes into their club and respects what they're all about. They will be behind him 100% to make sure it works and with that I think Eddie since being in the city, is feeling it because he's said all the right positive things.
“I think they can only move forward with him in charge and get some points under their belt because at the moment we're sitting rock bottom of the Premier League."
