Newcastle United great Alan Shearer is happy to see the Mike Ashley era now over.
Shearer admits he doesn't understand why Ashley became involved in the club.
“Disastrous. Flat. No hope. No excitement," Shearer described Ashley's time in charge.
"I don't think he should ever have got involved in the football club. I don't know why he did.
"He may have made a lot of money. I haven't got a clue and I don't really want to. It's got nothing to do with me anymore.
"He's an incredibly successful businessman and no-one can knock him for that, in whatever way he wants to do it, but I don't think him or his people sort of understood football or what he was getting into."
On the prospect of a return to the club under new ownership, he added on the Overlap: "If they want to sit down and talk then of course I'll be willing to do that."
