Allan Saint-Maximin admits he wants to prove his doubters wrong at Newcastle United.

Speaking in an interview with BFM RMC Sport, the former Saint Etienne winger admitted he was informed that he 'wouldn't succeed' at Newcastle, but claimed it's been nothing but the opposite.

"The only thing I wanted was to have fun, to have fun and actually that fun turns more and more with performance," Saint-Maximin said.

"When I arrive at Newcastle with all the French who failed at Newcastle - a few succeeded, but many also failed at Newcastle - I am told that I made the worst choice of my career, that I do not not going to succeed, not to play.

"However, I was superbly welcomed in Newcastle, the fans gave me a lot of love. And when I see my team in delicate situations where of course you risk the downhill every season, you can only think about pleasure, you have to think through performance. And it goes through statistics."
