Aston Villa chief Christian Purslow says they're delighted to count on Steven Gerrard as new manager.
Purslow sat with Gerrard at today's presser for their clash with Brigton.
He said, "We are absolutely thrilled to have Steven with us. The feeling is one of excitement.
"His drive, his determination, his constant pressing himself to be the best he can be are personal qualities we think will fit well with our own football club at this stage in our evolution.
We were lucky enough to have numerous applications for this position. Managing Aston Villa I think everyone would recognise is one of the most prestigious jobs in football anywhere and for Steven to come through and be offered and take the position is a fantastic moment in our club's history."
He continued: "We were clear when Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens acquired the club three years ago we were sitting somewhere around the middle of the Championship and we set in place a five-year plan. The constant theme has been that we must be improving.
"Improving our performances, improving our results, improving our finishing position, just over three years into that journey and I think Steven's arrival will reignite the club and push us forward.
"We have made no secret that this club is one of the tiny number of British clubs to have won the European Cup. That stage, playing in Europe is an exciting dream for our fans.
"When that happens we shall see but what we expect and what Steven has promised to deliver is continuous improvement in our team and I am certain he will do that."
