Ajax sports chief Marc Overmars has turned down an approach from Newcastle United.
Newcastle had Overmars pencilled in as their first ever technical director.
However, the Athletic says the Dutchman has rejected the prospect of taking charge of the new owners of Newcastle's project.
For the moment, Overmars will stay with Ajax.
However, the former Arsenal and Barcelona is still expected to be on the move at the end of this season.
