Newcastle United have appointed Eddie Howe as their new manager on a two-and-a-half year deal until 2024.

Howe made his name as manager of Bournemouth, taking the tiny south coast club from League One to the Premier League.

Steve Bruce was sacked as manager of October 20 after Newcastle's takeover by a Saudi-backed consortium for £300m.

The new owners have decided to go with Howe as the man to lead their Tyneside revolution.

Howe told the club's website: "It is a great honour to become head coach of a club with the stature and history of Newcastle United. It is a very proud day for me and my family."

United co-owner Amanda Staveley said: "We have been incredibly impressed by Eddie through what has been a rigorous recruitment process.

"As well as his obvious achievements with AFC Bournemouth, where he had a transformational impact, he is a passionate and dynamic coach who has clear ideas about taking this team and club forward."
