Jorginho insists Reece James did not ask to take a penalty in the 3-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

James would have been able to complete his hat-trick had he taken the spot-kick, which Jorginho slotted past Karl Darlow.

The pair exchanged words before the spot-kick, but Jorginho has revealed James was simply encouraging him rather than asking to take the penalty.

"If he had asked, we would have had a conversation but he didn't," Jorginho told ESPN Brasil after the game. "He came over to support me."

The victory has put Chelsea three points clear on top of the Premier League table.
