Real Madrid are keen to secure Luka Modric to a new contract.

Marca says Modric continues to play at a high level, and Real Madrid have acknowledged this and want to extend the Croatian midfielder's contract until June of 2023.

The former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker is 36 years old and is entering the final stage of his career, but he continues to amaze with his ability to influence matches at the top level.

Many thought he would retire from international football after helping guide Croatia to the 2018 World Cup final, yet Modric has continued and has managed to secure the team's place in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Playing at a fourth World Cup has been one of Modric's goals for the latter stage of his career, whilst another is to play at the redeveloped Estadio Santiago Bernabeu when it is completed in 2022.

In order for that to happen, Modric will need to extend his contract by one more year and work is underway on completing that process.
